How to Support Local Businesses

Now more than ever, it’s important to support local businesses. Here are a few simple ways you can support small businesses. Some of them don’t even require leaving your house!

Reviews

Leave reviews for local businesses to give them a boost. A positive review on Yelp, Google, and Facebook is free, and a great way to boost your local businesses. Give your favorite businesses a shout-out on social media. Even simple word of mouth can go a long way.

Support Local Businesses and Restaurants

Purchasing gift cards to local businesses and restaurants can help. If you need to go shopping, consider supporting local businesses in your area. Most businesses have an online presence, so you can shop online locally as well. Restaurants have been hit hard, so either dine in or get takeout. Both help keep restaurants afloat. If you’re able to tip generously, whether you dined in or ordered take-out, your generosity goes a long way. If you can order directly from the restaurant, that saves their costs to third-party delivery companies.

Support Local Farms

Local farms typically provide food for local restaurants. Unfortunately, they’ve also been hit hard by the pandemic. If you happen to have farmer’s markets in your area or local farm share boxes, support your local farms. You’ll get fresh, local produce and help farms in the process.

Stock Up

You know the types of goods and services that you use regularly. You can stock up now and maybe pay in advance or buy a package. Some places sell bundles of facials, massages, manicures, house cleaning, landscaping, etc. If there are other services you use regularly, perhaps gymnastics or karate classes, you can pay in advance for those as well to help out a local business.

Support Local Artists and Musicians

See if a local artist has an Etsy shop. Check with some of the local musicians in your area to purchase music and see if they’re selling tickets to a Zoom concert. Perhaps they have additional ideas on how you can support them.
